“Cloverfield” (2008) proved beyond any doubt that
viral marketing is a much more powerful and less expensive tool to
promote a movie than traditional strategies. “Chronicle” takes a page
from that manual with a new video.
“Chronicle” (see the official trailer below) tells the story of three teens who, one night, make a startling discovery, after which they develop supernatural powers they don't even know how to use.
For some time, a video showing people flying in NYC has been making the rounds. An explanation for it has just been offered – see the video above.
“Since the three main characters of the movie have the ability to fly, we came up with the idea of staging a few 'flying people' sightings around NYC,” Thinkmodo, hired by Fox to promote “Chronicle,” says.
“We achieved that illusion by having 3 custom-made aircraft (which were shaped like human beings) fly above designated areas in NYC and NJ,” Thinkmodo adds.
The result is pretty neat, you have to agree.
“Chronicle” will be out in theaters this week, starting February 3.
